Abstract

At this time fungal diseases tend to increase, along with increasing diseases that cause the immune system to decrease such as cancer, diabetes mellitus, HIV and also other risk factors such as long-term corticosteroid treatment. In this study we tried to compare the HE and GMS-HE staining, which we carried out from various paraffin blocks of tissue containing fungi such as the fungus Blastomycosis, Coccidioidomycosis, Histoplasmosis capsulatum var. capsulatum, Histoplasmosis capsulatum var. duboisii, and also Cryptococcus. From this study on HE staining, we found that 3 types of fungi from a total of 5 types of fungi (60%) were less clear, and 2 types of fungi from a total of 5 types of fungi (40%) were quite clear, while in GMS-HE staining 5 types of fungi were seen. from a total of 5 types of fungi (100%) that we studied were very clear. In conclusion, GMS-HE staining has better results than HE staining alone.
