Abstract

So far, we have known that Hematoxylin & Eosin (HE) staining method is to determine the diagnosis of infection in tissues. However, sometimes with HE staining, it is impossible to clearly see the type of fungus that infects the tissues, so other staining is needed to clarify the diagnosis. Therefore, a comparative study was carried out between Hematoxylin & Eosin (HE) staining and Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) staining on fungi in tissues. This research was conducted on Coccidioidomycosis, Mycetoma, Actinomycosis, Pneumocystis carinii, and Chromoblastomycosis. In this study, 4 fungi (80%) were less clear while 1 fungi (20%) was quite clear on HE staining, and the PAS staining showed that 1 fungus (20%) was not clear, 1 fungi (20%) was quite clear, and 3 fungi (60%) was very clear.
