Abstract

Tinea versicolor is a chronic infection and often causes no symptoms. This infection is common and is caused by Malassezia furfur and usually affects young adults. Tinea versicolor does not affect the health of the sufferer, but provides psychological effects for the sufferer. This study was conducted on tissue specimens of skin scrapings formed into paraffin blocks and PAS staining and GMS staining were performed. PAS staining on Tinea versicolor gives good and clear results. Thus the examination does not have to be continued with GMS staining because PAS staining has obtained satisfactory results. The diagnosis of Tinea versicolor is sufficient with PAS staining.
